The other day I was at a doctor's office, talking to a nurse. When I told her I was going to Africa a few unexpected things happened...her eyes got big and she started waving her hands at me simultaneously saying "Noooo".
I've never had this reaction before.
Apparently she saw a documentary on tv recently that showed the most dangerous creatures/insects/animals on the earth, and according to her...they're in Africa. She kept saying repeatedly, "Oh be careful, ohhh, oh be careful". After promising her I would, in fact, take care, I tried to tell her that I would not (to my knowledge), be anywhere in the Congo, bush, or wading in any rivers. She didn't seem super convinced, but I did my best to assure her that I would probably not encounter any of these animals while there. It reminded me of how I had to promise my mom the pirates in Africa wouldn't "get me" because I'm not traveling by boat while there.
Trust me...I don't care what animals/insects/pirates are there, I'm still going :-)
